In the Roman Catholic Church some were later declared saints and became Doctor of the Church. The best known Latin Church Fathers are Ambrose, Augustine, Gregory the Great, and Jerome. Those who wrote in Greek include Athanasius, Basil, Gregory Nazianzen, and John Chrysostom.
